Uses
Cosmelan is commonly used for:
- Melasma
- Freckles
- Sunspots (solar lentigines)
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (acne marks)
- Uneven skin tone
- Age spots
- Pigmentation caused by hormonal changes
- Pigmentation after cosmetic procedures (when appropriate)
Application Procedure
1. Pre-treatment
- Skin is assessed by a dermatologist.
- A preparation skincare routine may be recommended for 1–2 weeks before treatment.
2. In-clinic application
- The skin is cleansed thoroughly.
- The Cosmelan professional mask is applied evenly over the affected areas.
- The mask remains on the skin for the number of hours prescribed by the dermatologist (commonly 6–12 hours, depending on skin type and pigmentation severity).
3. Mask removal
- The patient washes off the mask at home using a gentle cleanser, following the dermatologist’s instructions.
4. Home maintenance
After the mask is removed, a maintenance routine is essential and usually includes:
- Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream
- Moisturizer
- High-SPF broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50+)
- Other supportive skincare products recommended by the dermatologist
This maintenance phase generally continues for 3–6 months to maximize results and reduce the risk of pigmentation returning.
Benefits
- Reduces stubborn pigmentation.
- Improves skin brightness and radiance.
- Evens out skin tone.
- Suitable for many skin types.
- Less invasive than some laser treatments.
Precautions
- Must be performed under the supervision of a qualified dermatologist.
- Avoid direct sun exposure during treatment.
- Apply sunscreen daily and reapply as needed.
- Do not use harsh exfoliants or active ingredients unless advised.
- Temporary redness, peeling, and dryness are expected during the first few weeks.
Consistent aftercare—especially diligent sun protection—is one of the most important factors in achieving good, long-lasting results with Cosmelan.
